No Grand Central trains run on Sunday 3rd December due to Kings Cross being closed for engineering work. Consequently, the last train south on Saturday and the first north on Monday are also cancelled. Tuesday to Friday as normal. Neither will GC trains run on Christmas Eve Sunday 24th December for the same reason.

Between 1st and 9th December ASLEF are taking industrial action which will affect different parts of the system on different days. Grand Central are not affected. However no Northern trains will run on Friday 8th December as a result.

The new ‘winter ’timetable starts on Sunday 10th December. Check before you travel, though there are generally only very minor changes with the following exceptions:-

Northern introduce their ‘fast’ weekday service running every two hours between Middlesbrough and Newcastle stopping initially only at Thornaby and Sunderland. Once the new platform at Hartlepool is opened in the Spring these trains will also call at Hartlepool.

Grand Central’s Monday to Friday mid-morning train from Sunderland to Kings Cross currently leaving Sunderland at 09.54 will be retimed to depart at 10.17 but by having a shorter stop in York and a faster path south still arrive at Kings Cross as now at 13.53, a saving of 23 minutes on the journey.
