An extract from the October edition of Northern’s new bimonthly stakeholders newsletter :-
Plessey Viaduct
There is some structural damage to Plessey Viaduct (between Cramlington & Morpeth) which requires urgent repair, and this is being managed by Network Rail. At the time of writing there is only one line which is usable across the viaduct, and this has a 5 mph restriction on it, as a result capacity is severely restricted. We are operating a special timetable which will be in use until the repairs are completed. The current estimation for completion is 6th November. We also have bus replacement services to/from Morpeth in place along with bus coordinators to help our passengers meet their destinations.
Changes To The Senior Leadership Of The North East Region.
Kerry Peters is moving from the North East Region to take up the role of Regional Director for the East Region. Kerry will be replaced by Jason Wade.
Jason has just celebrated his 30th year in the rail industry, after starting his career as a graduate trainee in Personnel for Regional Railways North East, which was part of British Rail. During his time in the business, he has seen it transform to become the Northern we see today and has worked across many areas, including stations, control, safety, performance, operations and customer and commercial. In his current role as Head of Retail Operations, Jason has been accountable for all our retailing provision and revenue protection activities. In the past four years he’s led the team to deliver a 50% reduction in ticketless travel and to a current record low, performing under 4%.
